4 Days Mount Elgon Summit 4,321m A.S.L Via Bushiyi Trail And Acclimatization.
Mount Elgon National Park is the second highest Mountain in Uganda with a height of 4,321m a.s.l after the snowcapped Mount Rwenzori with 5,109m a.s.l. Mount Elgon is a breathtaking destination known for its biodiversity, stunning landscapes and a water catchment area for many rivers like Sipi Falls. These Mountain is located in both Uganda and Kenya at the shared geographic border points. Mount Elgon borders Uganda in the East and borders Kenya in the West.

Mount Elgon has one of the World’s largest Mountain Calderas stretching 8km in diameter formed after volcanic eruption about million years ago.
Mount Elgon is a home to mammals like Black and white colobus monkeys, Blue Monkeys, Duikers, Jackals, forest tree squirrels and has over 300 bird species including the endangered Lammergeyer and the Jackson’s francolin, making it a haven for the birding enthusiasts.
The 4 Days Mount Elgon trail takes you through the most scenic view points and different vegetation Zones and acclimatization on the first day of the trek. The vegetation varies from montane forests and Bamboo zones to heather and Moorland, showcasing diverse plant life adapted to different altitudes.
Mount Elgon has spearheaded local communities living around the near the park to ensure sustainable tourism and conservation of the biodiversity.

ITINERARY
- DAY 1. After early morning breakfast from the accommodation, we shall have a boda boda (Motor Cycle) ride to the starting point which will take 7-8kms to the gate. We shall arrive, register and meet the porters, chef, ranger guides, the team going to make your adventure memorable and enjoyable. Bushiyi gate is at 1800m a.s.l. The trek will start after the briefing and this will take you about 4 hours to the first camp at Shiloko 2600m for your lunch break and Coffee, Dinner and overnight stay. The first day trek is to allow you to acclimatize and gain less elevation for your body to adopt.
- DAY 2. After Early morning breakfast, we shall embark on our trek through a steep forest zone which is one of the steepest parts of this trail but once it’s completed, it gets easier and gentle at the top near the second night camp. Lunch and overnight at Dubi camp 3600m a.s.l. The chef and the porters will make sure you will have enough fire to warm yourselves as the chef is preparing his favorite dinner recipe for you as the nights retires.
- After Early morning breakfast, we shall continue our day 3 trek from the Dubi camp through the heather zones, giant lobelia zones, breathtaking landscapes and endless mountain ranges stretching beyond the borders of Uganda and Kenya. The hike will take approximately 4 hours at 6kms walk to the summit 4,321m. At this point, you shall view several other peaks of Koitabos 4222m, Sudek 4302m, Mubiyi peak 4221m. After the summit, you shall descend down back to the camp for late lunch and later we descend down to the Shiloko camp for our overnight and closer to the Exit on the Day 3 of our trek. Descending down to the lower camp is steep and this will take more time to arrive to the lower camp, on arrival you will enter in tents and change to warm clothes as the porters arranges the camp fires for you and dinner served and overnight.
- DAY 4. After Early Morning Breakfast, we shall pack and walk down to the exit at Bushiyi gate which will take about 3-4 hours depending on the trail’s conditions. On arrival, you will be awarded with the certificates for accomplishing the 4 days Mount Elgon summit as prepare to get on Motor cycle taking you back to the car or next destination and this marks the End of your 4 days Mount Elgon hike.

REQUIREMENTS
- Good hiking shoes, water proof if any.
- Wipes and towels
- High Altitude emergency medication (Ibuprofens, Dexamethasone)
- Minimum of 15-20 kilograms of extra Backpacks for the porters.
- Carry only few items that you need and leave the rest behind to keep them from getting wet.
- Personal Backpack should be light and easy to carry to avoid sore shoulders.
