Hiking Trails in Sipi Falls

Sipi Falls is a hiker’s paradise that unveils its natural greenery beauty to the eyes of the viewer. Sipi Falls is a series of 3 cascading waterfalls ranging from 100 meters, 85 meters and 65 meters respectively. Uganda’s natural wander is the most visited waterfalls in the Eastern Region of the Country along the Mount Elgon slopes.

Sipi Falls is found in the heart of Kapchorwa District, Uganda’s home of champions and golden medallists in the athletic running sports due to the favourable atmosphere of training facilities, high altitude, and Mountains good for running.

Sipi Falls originates from a local indigenous wild banana called ‘Soured’ in local Sabiny dialect but originally ‘Abyssinian banana in English which was used as local herbal medicine by the community to treat malaria, measles, fever and other illnesses.

POPULAR SIPI HIKING TRAILS

KAPTOGOLO TRAIL.

Kaptogolo trail is one of the most enjoyable hiking trails to access the main waterfalls of 100 meters high standing at an elevation of approximately 1600m above the sea level.

This waterfall is the most popular one for doing abseiling / repelling/ snappling surrounded by nature and waterfalls while abseiling down to the bottom of the falls.

Despite its natural beauty and landscape, this waterfall is the most challenging and most adrenaline due to its topography associated with steep downslopes and upslopes suitable for adrenaline and moderate hikers without young children of 4 year below due to the slippery part of the trail most especially during rainy season.

CHEPKUI TRAIL HIKE

As these waterfalls cascade, they pass through different villages and communities which derives some of the local names of the waterfalls.

Chepkui Trail waterfalls Falls is found in Chepkui Village and Munarya village. The Chepkui Falls of 65 meters which is the smallest Sipi falls is one of the most beautiful and romantic waterfalls with its natural showers at the bottom of the falls usually embraced by the hikers during a warm hiking day and stunning.

Chepkui waterfalls of Sipi Falls has a man-made cave which allows you to view the waterfalls behind the cave and exposes your photogenic passion into creativity like taking a shoe-shaped photo of the cave and the waterfalls. The chepkui waterfalls is the nearest and most accessible waterfalls with less hiking and steep parts depending on the access point such as Heritage Lodge has a near access to the waterfalls via the chepkui trail.

NGASIRE WATERFALLS.

The second highest waterfall is found at Ngasire / Chebukoch waterfalls standing at an elevation of 2010m above the sea level.

Chebukoch waterfalls / Ngasire waterfalls is 85 meters in height and adjacent to the Mount Elgon Forest boundary approximately 2kms away from the park boundary.

Accessing Ngasire waterfalls is by either hiking through the community or by driving or using a motorcycle only when there’s no rains or not wet to avoid getting stuck.
