1 Day Mount Elgon Nature Walks
Mount Elgon is Uganda’s second highest Volcanic Mountain with world’s largest mountain Caldera base stretching 80kms in diameter raising above 3000m a.s.l. It It has a height of 4321m a.s.l approximately 14,177 feet and second highest to the block formed Mount Rwenzori which has a height of 5,109m a.s.l which is one of Africa’s snow caped Mountains. These volcanic Mountain is extinct with its last eruptions dated 24 million years ago according to the geological study. Mount Elgon is shared by the two East African states, Uganda and Kenya and it’s one of the oldest East Africa’s Volcanic Mountain. Mount Elgon has a unique Flora and Fauna contributing to the eco-system, from lowland forests to Afro-Alpine zones near the summit. The diverse range of habitats supports a wide variety of plants and animal species like blue monkeys, Tree Squirrels, Black and White Colobus and about 300 bird species.
1 Day Mount Elgon nature walks take you through both primary and secondary forests standing at different elevations. The nature walks trails lead you through stunning landscapes, waterfalls, caves, lush forests making it a perfect spot for eco-tourism for adventure seekers. Day nature walks depend on choice of the distance you choose, they range from 3kms, 5kms to 7kms respectively depending on the level of fitness and interests.
