History of Sipi Falls
Sipi was derived from the name ‘SEP’ banana which is a wild plant growing near the waterfalls which used to be a natural healing remedy for different illnesses like measles, fever, malaria and other infections used with the herbal roots of this banana.
‘Sep’ banana is also called ‘Sosurwet’ in the local native Sabiny language but in English it’s Abyssinian Banana.

Sipi Falls is a home to the Sabiny people who are among the Kalenjin Community originating from Ethiopia and living in both the West of Kenya and the East of Uganda sharing the national border points drawn by the former colonialists.
